AM700 Audio Measurement Set User Manual
4-53
Touch the Accept Changes soft key (or the Cancel soft key) to exit the Input
Configuration display and return to the application.
NOTE. As with most AM700 applications, you can also make an input selection from
a subset of the list in the Input Configuration screen by pressing the Menu button
(from the main Audio Analyzer display) and touching the Input soft key. Refer to
Selecting Input Options below.
The Audio Analyzer settings that control measurements, input, and how measure-
ment data is displayed are accessed when you press the Menu button. A discussion
of the menus displayed (Enables, Input, and Plot Control) follows.
Selecting Input Options
You can select the type of input from the Main menu by touching the Input soft key
to display input options, or by pressing the Configure button and touching the Input
Selection soft key. This was described previously.
The AM700 input digitizers operate over a fixed input dynamic range. Input
attenuators and gain cells maintain input accuracy and adjust the input to the
digitizer to operate over the whole dynamic range the audio input signal. In Auto
Mode, the input signal level is automatically sensed; and the appropriate gain or
attenuation is applied.
If you want the instrument to operate in a specific range, you must uncheck the Auto
selection and use the field editor to specify the maximum RMS voltage or dBu value
expected at the input for measurement, see Figure 4-21. The advantage of doing so
is that measurements can occur faster because the instrument is not spending time
sensing the input signal and applying appropriate gain or attenuation to the input.
Another advantage of forcing the instrument to operate in a specific range is that it
eliminates switching as the sensing circuitry attempts to apply the appropriate gain
or attenuation to the changing signal levels. In Auto range mode, particularly with
program audio, relays in the attenuator/gain circuitry can be continually switching
as they attempt to apply the appropriate gain or attenuation to a wide ranging input
signal.
